Fundamentals of free motion quilting
This class is a great class if you are starting out on your free motion quilting journey. You have made a few quilt tops and you are hooked. It's not hard, I know. Maybe you have sent out a couple of tops to be quilted and would like to learn how to quilt your own smaller quilts yourself.
This a four hour introductory class where you will learn how to start quilting by machine covering:
Quilt sandwich preparation.
Machine set up and tension issues for free motion quilting.
Accurate stitch in the ditch.
Stitching out several motion quilting designs.
How to keep a good balance to your quilting.
Quilting tools and notions, which ones I recommend and why.
I teach this class along side the Westalee Quilting with Rulers class so you can get to see how all that works too.
I aim to increase your quilting skills so you can quilt your own quilts successfully.
If you can book four lessons, all the better. I offer these at a reduced rate of $50 a class (paid for in sets of 4 at $200). You can choose this option online and then call me on 0430 135281 to set up your dates.
My goal is to get you sewing pointy points, curvy curves and pretty stitches. You will be working on practise samples in this class. The class runs for four hours. Morning tea is provided. The class is a great stepping stone to many of the other classes I offer. If you haven't done any quilting before I recommend you take this class first so that you can build your skills up.
Sewing machine with extension table. If you do not have an extension table already please call before you buy one as I can advise you on the many options available.
Sewing machine manual.
Free motion quilting foot (if you do not already have one please ask about the Westalee ruler foot that you can purchase at class for $55. This foot fits most machines and allows you to free motion quilt as well as quilt with rulers. Confused by the feet? Please call me on 0430 135281 with questions).
2 m calico (can be purchased at class for $8)
1 m cotton wadding (can be purchased at class for $22 or square scrap pieces approximately 40 cm square can be used too).
Thread and bobbins in different colours.
Sewing machine needles and spray baste (can be purchased at class for $10 and $16 respectively).
A great can do attitude is an essential requirement!
